Ballet Curriculum
By age 5 children are ready to focus on ballet technique. Through simple barre and center work children develop strength, coordination and flexibility. Emphasis is on articulate footwork, expressive carriage of the arms and small to medium jumps. They learn musicality by learning choreography set to traditional ballet music. Dancing expressively is encouraged in a balance of structured movement and improvization. This curriculum gives young dancers a foundation that allows them to easily move on to more serious training. For these classes children need to wear a simple dance leotard (a short skirt is optional) with tights and ballet shoes. There is a recital held in the spring where dancers wear a colorful costume and perform on stage for their family and friends.

Ballet/Tap Curriculum
Both ballet and tap techiniques are presented in this combination class. In ballet children learn basic foot and arm positions at the barre.  Center work teaches classical positions, steps, turns and movement combinations. They also dance freely with scarves at the end of the class to develop creative expression. The tap portion oif the class includes learning basic tap steps and combinations that progress to learning an entire dance routine. The emphasis is on learning to move to the beat of the music, cordinating both small and large motor movements that create a variety of sounds.
For this class children need to wear a simple leotard (a short skirt is optional) with tights. Both ballet shoes and tap shoes are required. There is a recital held in the spring where dancers wear a colorful costume and perform on stage for their family and friends.
